From the pages of History

Akbar was the Mughal king whose conquest after conquest consolidated Mughal empire & brought it to zenith . He was not able to read & write but administered his empire with iron hand His humorous put in his ,decision making,  always stumped others . Due to this reason the story of Akbar-Birbal blended so deeply in the psychic of common mass i.e. his subject .  Never the less ,  still it is in the common folklore it is repeated as & when required in any form  . Many of intricate decision related to  empire , he took with such simplicity , historians found him toast of their treatise . They never found folly in his decision , though he ruled this country for 49 years .No other king of India was able to avoid controversy related to his reign  One simply salutes his pragmatism .

Akbar led the famous seize of Surat, gateway of export & Import of India in Jan. 1573 for six days & entered into city triumphantly which is well depicted into a painting . He assured a revenue of 40 lacs per year from outgoing & incoming traders from sea to Mughal treasury . His this sound & valient action filled the coffers of Mughal empire & made it richest among all the comtemporary empires . Still ; due to this reason chicken preparation is coined 'chicken muglai' in common lingo or the production house of Hollywood are named as ' Movie Mugals'. Such was the aura of Mughal empire & it was not less than ' Victorian Era'. So,add anywhere' Muglal'  & it becomes  big & mammoth .

Akbar, very happy over his conquest of Surat ordered to build ' Buland Darwaza, in Fatehur Sikri in 1576 which was 41 km from Agra , his capital .It was the tallest gate for opening in the world. In the year Oct .1605 he decided to enact a fight between champion elephants to decide his successor to the throne to end the bickering for succession. The fight was between ' Giranbar, belonging to Saleem who afterwards became Jehangir & ' Apurva' belonging to Khusrau Mirja , emperor Akbar's grandson & son of Saleem .' Ratanmahan' was the champion elephant of Akbar , who was to stand in a corner of fighting arena & act as a referee . But 'Giranbar' defeated  not only ' Apurva' but forced to run even ' Ratanmahan' , Akbar's  champion elephant .As it was perhaps ordained from heaven , Akbar suffered from  fever worsened by diarrhoea & died on  Oct.17 ,1605 . Khusrau Mirza did not reconciled by the defeat of his elephant & rebelled.
